Coaching
‘To pay attention: this is our endless and proper work’
Mary Oliver
I help individuals and teams pause and reflect, in order to live more deliberately—aligned with their deepest values and most meaningful goals. It’s not always clear what our values and goals are in the maelstrom of life and work, but through careful questioning and attentive listening they can become clearer and better defined. My intention is to help clients to enter an ‘attention cottage’, in the words of Alan Jacobs – where they can focus on these things. So if you’re looking for clarity on how to move forward, or you’ve become untethered from what matters most to you – get in touch for an initial call to explore how coaching might help.
My Approach
Rooted in ICF-accredited training (Coaching Development)
Grounded in 15 years’ experience in education and leadership positions, as well as advanced study of theology, philosophy, and character development (University of Edinburgh, King’s College London, and University of Birmingham)
Focused on attention, alignment, and action
Centred on becoming, not just achieving
I help people surface and articulate the values that matter, rediscover purpose, and explore the narratives that have shaped them—so they can step into the future with intention and clarity. The work begins in reflection, and ends in transformation.

What does coaching look like?
If we’ve decided to work together after an initial meeting, we would decide on a focus for the sessions. An example of six sessions exploring values might look something like this:
As you’ve no doubt picked up from the website’s homepage, I host a podcast called The Examined Life. In it, I speak to leading thinkers about the question they believe we should be asking ourselves. Many of the conversations cover themes that frequently surface in coaching – purpose, meaning, values, perception, spirituality. If you’re interested in listening to some of the ones that touch on these topics, here are a few recommendations to begin:
Dacher Keltner on finding meaning
William Damon on finding your purpose
Oliver Burkeman on embracing limits
Elizabeth Oldfield on character formation
Lisa Miller on spirituality and ‘awakened awareness’
Anna Lembke on our relationship with pain and pleasure
